Strikes action at EPTA in Bradford which was due to begin tomorrow (October 15), have been called off after workers accepted an improved pay deal.
The 70 workers who build and maintain industrial fridges and freezers for major supermarkets chains, had announced strike action in a dispute over pay. However, following an improved pay offer of seven per cent (up from four per cent), backdated to 1st April, the strikes have been called off and the dispute ended.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Well done to our members at EPTA who by standing strong and announcing strike action, secured an improved pay increase.
“This pay deal underlines how Unite’s commitment to prioritising the jobs, pay and conditions of our members is paying genuine dividends, with workers seeing real pay increases.”
In addition to the pay increase the deal also sees company sick pay becoming payable from day one (previously it was after three days) and this measure will also be backdated to 1 April
Unite regional officer Neil Whitaker said: “This pay deal would not have been possible without the hardwork of our reps and the dedication of our members at EPTA.
“The message from this dispute is clear if workers want a pay rise they should join Unite and ensure their colleagues join too.”
